Flora Duffy has won the ITU world championship in Cozumel Mexico to close out a magnificent season. Coming into the race, Flora was under pressure from Olympic champion Gwen Jorgenson. In the hot and humid conditions, Flora dominated all three disciplines to solidify her spot as one of Bermuda's greatest athletes.

1. Flora Duffy BER 1:57:59
2. Gwen Jorgensen USA 1:59:16
3. Charlotte McShane AUS 1:59:25
4. Helen Jenkins GBR 1:59:28
5. Ai Ueda JPN 1:59:39
6. Vendula Frintova CZE 1:59:44
7. Sarah True USA 1:59:58
8. Non Stanford GBR 2:00:16
9. Mariya Shorets RUS 2:00:21
10. Ashleigh Gentle AUS 2:00:34

Non Stanford of GBR won the event in a time of 59:49, Jodie Stimpson of GBR was second in 59:56 and Flora Duffy was third in a time of 59:59.
Duffy was quoted after the race, “I don’t know if it was brave, stilly, stupid or what but I came out of the swim with a bit of a gap and I thought, well it is only a 20K so let me see. There was 30 seconds at one point and then I got caught coming into transition. But I did have a little bit of time to soft pedal and catch my breath and mentally prepare myself for a tough 5K. I actually felt pretty good on the run, and there was no way I was finishing fourth again! I spent half the year in Stellenbosch, which is just up the road, so a lot of friends and family are here watching, so the crowd was so amazing so I thought there was no way I am taking fourth, I have to get to third!”
Well Done Flora!
