NatWest Island Games--team selectedThe triathlon team to represent us at the NatWest Island Games next month has now been selected. Congratulations to the following athletes (listed in alphabetical order): Tim Goodyer, Jonathan Herring, Adam Hopkin, Tucker Murphy, Laura Norman, Martina Olcheski-Bell, Laurie Orchard, Kent Richardson, Geoff Smith, and Mark Wilcox. Ryan Gunn will serve as an alternate. Best of luck to you all! BTA Junior CampWe are delighted to confirm that our popular camp will once again be led by the very experienced and popular Steve Trew. The camp will run from 1-5 July, from 8:30am to 12:30pm each day. A huge thank you to Ian Pilgrim for once again looking after our juniors by arranging this! We've been invited to showcase the sport of triathlon on Olympic Day, 23 June. We envisage holding one or probably several mini triathlons at the National Stadium that afternoon. The swim leg will be in the new pool (with potentially a shallow area sectioned off to allow young kids to take part.) Watch this website for more details! We have arranged some BTA peak hats. Congratulations, Tyler Congratulations to Tyler Smith (pictured with proud Mum Karen, Minister Wayne Scott, and BTA President Jennifer Gunn. Photo courtesy of IslandStats.com.) Up-and-coming triathlete Tyler was recently awarded a scholarship as part of the National Junior Athlete Sponsorship Awards programme. The scholarship should be enough to allow Tyler to buy a new bicycle and to enable him to attend the USAT camp in the summer. Tyler was one of 12 youngsters who received awards at a lunch on 18 April. Committee members Jennifer Gunn and Jeff Conyers represented the BTA. Earth Hour - Fun Run/Walk and Celebrations Greenrock is hosting its Annual Earth Hour Expo from 5pm to 10pm on Saturday 23 March at City Hall. The actual "lights out" hour will be from 8:30pm to 9:30pm. The Expo includes a "Glow-in-the-dark Fun Walk/Run" which will be held during the "lights out hour" between 8:30pm and 9:30pm. This is an untimed 3.25km walk or run (untimed because of the hazards of running through streets in the dark) through the streets of Hamilton. Wine Tasting Evening - 21 March 2013 You're invited to a wine tasting evening at Gosling's Wine Cellar, Dundonald Street, from 5:30 to 8:30 pm on Thursday 21 March to raise funds for the NatWest Island Games. There will be finger foods to complement the wines. The evening will include 7 wine tastings, hors d'oeuvres, door prizes, raffles and music. New Year, New Committee At the AGM in late 2012, two stalwarts stood down from the Executive Committee. Neil de Ste Croix retired as our President. Over many years Neil has selflessly devoted countless hours to triathlon in Bermuda. His contributions are too numerous to list, ranging from team manager at the Olympics to his TriHedz efforts for kids and to the organisation of SheROX. Neil has been an inspiration to many young--and not so young--triathletes. Well done and thanks, Neil. Secondly, Ian Pilgrim has stepped down. Through his responsibility for Sport Development, Ian (like Neil) has had a wonderful influence on budding triathletes.
