Congratulations, Tyler Congratulations to Tyler Smith (pictured with proud Mum Karen, Minister Wayne Scott, and BTA President Jennifer Gunn. Photo courtesy of IslandStats.com.) Up-and-coming triathlete Tyler was recently awarded a scholarship as part of the National Junior Athlete Sponsorship Awards programme. The scholarship should be enough to allow Tyler to buy a new bicycle and to enable him to attend the USAT camp in the summer. Tyler was one of 12 youngsters who received awards at a lunch on 18 April. Committee members Jennifer Gunn and Jeff Conyers represented the BTA. Women in Sport
The Women In Sport event will take place on 26 & 27 April at the Fairmont Southampton Princess. The event will start with a banquet on the Friday night at which the organisers aim to have an exciting International athlete as the speaker. Saturday will start with a 5k run/walk and a 1 mile Little Girls Rock run. From 12:00 - 6:00pm there will be top international athletes speaking throughout the day, demonstrations, a panel discussion and booths set up (health, sports, physio, nutrition etc.). Each participant in the run/walk will receive a t-shirt, medal and a WIS bag, and all expo attendants will receive a WIS bag. The committee have invited the BTA to host a ...

Earth Hour - Fun Run/Walk and Celebrations Greenrock is hosting its Annual Earth Hour Expo from 5pm to 10pm on Saturday 23 March at City Hall. The actual "lights out" hour will be from 8:30pm to 9:30pm. The Expo includes a "Glow-in-the-dark Fun Walk/Run" which will be held during the "lights out hour" between 8:30pm and 9:30pm. This is an untimed 3.25km walk or run (untimed because of the hazards of running through streets in the dark) through the streets of Hamilton. Wine Tasting Evening - 21 March 2013 You're invited to a wine tasting evening at Gosling's Wine Cellar, Dundonald Street, from 5:30 to 8:30 pm on Thursday 21 March to raise funds for the NatWest Island Games. Tyler Third in Abu Dhabi
Congratulations to Tyler Butterfield, who finished a hugely creditable third in the Abu Dhabi International Triathlon on 2 March, in a field including the Olympic gold medallist. Nikki was less lucky, having to withdraw with an injury mid way through the event. Island Challenge 2013
The Island Challenge 2013 is a team event that raises money for charities. It is an obstacle adventure where participants run/walk a course along the dunes of south shore, doing obstacles on the way, and end by tackling the assault course at the Bermuda Regiment. The charities being supported this year are Knowledge Quest, The Menuhin Foundation and De Boys’ Day Out Club. The event will take place on Saturday, 9 March, and entries are open now. New Year, New Committee At the AGM in late 2012, two stalwarts stood down from the Executive Committee. Neil de Ste Croix retired as our President. Over many years Neil has selflessly devoted countless hours to triathlon in Bermuda. His contributions are too numerous to list, ranging from team manager at the Olympics to his TriHedz efforts for kids and to the organisation of SheROX. Neil has been an inspiration to many young--and not so young--triathletes. Well done and thanks, Neil. Secondly, Ian Pilgrim has stepped down. Through his responsibility for Sport Development, Ian (like Neil) has had a wonderful influence on budding triathletes.
